One little known offshoot of the space program is dichroic glass – sometimes known as 'fused glass' which is used in jewelry, the optical and security industry and other applications.

Dichroic glass stems from the fusion of the Greek word di-chroos, which means two (di) and color (chroos) and refers to the capability of some crystals to show two different colors when you look at them from different angles. Put another way, if you hold up a piece of dichroic glass, you will see one color being reflected back at you while another color is passing through. You would also see two different colors if you look at the same glass from different angles.

Dichroic glass was developed by NASA for use as face plates for space suits, which needed transparent mediums which filtered out unwanted light spectrums such as harmful infrared or ultraviolet rays. The new development eventually found its way into other industries and is now being used for scientific instruments, camcorders and the popular PIA lights for cars, trucks and factories.

Jewelry is a universal form of self-expression. Its timeless beauty and personal nature make it uniquely satisfying wear.

The seductive gleam of polished metal excites the senses of touch and sight, making jewelry one of the most intimate of art forms. When you try on a jewelry creation, you feel the metal's weight, texture, even its temperature - against your skin. Your intimate experience with the metal becomes your introduction to other aspects of the jewelry's beauty.

The three most popular noble metals are gold, platinum, and silver, but Titanium and Tungsten are becoming just a popular due to their substantial reduced price when in comparison to the popular metals. These will last just a long and are high sought after by many consumers for not just weddings, but from fashion minded individuals that demand quality at a good price.

Both Titanium and Tungsten have intriguing character that's all it own. But both share certain qualities that make them desirable in jewelry. Those qualities are: allure, workability, and durability.

Allure: The appeal of both these metals is physical as well as psychological. Their powerful physical allure is due to a combination of three attributes: color, luster, and heft.
