The Main Classification of Chinese Tea



 


China is regarded as the hometown of tea, the history can be chased back to several thousand years ago. In the Tang Dynasty there was a famous tea drinker, who was called "Sage of Tea"-Lu Yu, he wrote a book named"Cha Ching", which told a lot of interesting stories about chinese tea. Chinese tea, together with the silk and porcelain, they are exported aboard and have been known by the world over a thousand years. Also the habit of tea drinking number in the world is quite large and is still increasing.


 


According to the different processed methods, Chinese tea can be classified into five categories, such as Green tea, Black tea, Wu Long tea, Compressed tea and Scented tea. The tea can be planted in a large areas from the southern huainan to the northern Shandong province, from Tibet in the southwest to Taiwan in the southwest, totally more than 20 provinces.


 


Green tea, it's the variety which keeps the original colour of the tea leaves without fermentation during processing. This category includes several kinds of tea, mainly involves Maofeng tea in Huangshan Mountain in Anhui Province, Biluochun produced in Jiangsu province, Longjing tea in Zhejiang Province.


 


Black tea, it is also called "red tea" in China. this category needs to be fermented first, and then taken to bake, it is developed after the green tea. And the famous variety of this category comes from Suhong in Jiangsu province, Chuanhong in Sichuan province, Huhong in Hunan province, Qihong in Anhui province, Dianhong in Yunnan province.


 


Wu Long tea, it is a variety which is between the green and the black teas, it is made after being partly fermented. It is mainly famous in the areas of  china's Fujian, Guangdong and Taiwan province.


 


Compressed tea is a kind of tea that has been compressed in certain shape, which is much good for people to transport and store. This variety is very popular at the minorities which is living at the border of our country. Compressed also has another name called black tea, that is because people always see it in black color when they are trading. It is also known as "brick tea" for its shape are mostly like a brick. Compressed tea is mainly from Sichuan, Hubei and Yunnan province.


 


Scented tea, it is a variety which complexs the sweet smell of flower into the tea leaves when processing. There are two most common used flowers in tea making, jasmine and magnolia, and jasmine is more pop in the nouth of china.
